Venetian silk is sewn onto the top sections and wrapped around the carrying cases, emphasizing the juxtaposition of the ornate, rich history of the old city with the ever-present problems of pollution caused, in part, by runoff from the Port of Marghera and continual maintenance problems with sewage disposal. Many associate the city of Venice with the odor of the canals. When you live on a group of sinking islands constantly inundated by high tides, what happens to the trash and sewage?
