These Ice Books were created for the 15th International Biennial of Cuenca, Ecuador, held from December 10, 2021 to February 28, 2022. Given the strong sustainable theme of the exhibition in which the invited artists were encouraged to minimize the environmental impact of their works, and the practical realities imposed by the COVID pandemic, Irland chose to collaborate virtually with a local ice carver and a botanist to create four large Ice Books, each one representing a river that flows through Cuenca.
